Juvederm and possible side effect from COVID shot - Am I safe to get Juvederm?

Question

Hi, I had sculptra done in my checks and 2 months later I received my first dose of the COVID shot. The following day I had a large hard nodule appear under my left eye. After receiving the 2nd Moderna shot I ended up with a hard nodule 3 months later under the right eye. The nodules responded well to a shot of steroids. April 30 2021 was the date of the 2nd COVID shot. Here is the question, am I safe to get juvederm? I’m so scared it is going to happen again. Thank u!

The information about the relationship between the Covid vaccine and fillers is continually developing.  With the information known at this time we advise that patients wait two weeks between filler treatments and the Covid vaccine.  This is primarily due to concerns of temporary swelling that may be beyond what is normally expected.  As you are over a year from your last vaccine you should be fine to proceed with treatment as planned.

The reason you had nodules under your eye after your Covid shot is not because of the vaccination but because the original injection of Sculptra was too close to the eye. Sculptra should only be injected into thicker tissues on the face and body. You’re absolutely safe and receiving Juvaderm. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City plastic surgery

Unfortunately I do not have a great answer to your question. Typically I tell my patients to wait at least 2 weeks in between vaccines and injectables. I think you should be safe to proceed with your Juvederm treatment, just proceed with caution and be vigilant about monitoring for adverse effects. I would recommend not getting too many syringes at first either just to make sure you don't react. Juvederm and Scultra are different products and work differently so that also works in your favor.
