Chin ptosis is caused by the removal of implants. After the skin and muscles are stretched in the area, the sudden loss of that volume will cause them to sag. The hardware put in for a genioplasty will essentially become useless after a few months. Once the bone is healed, the plate and hardware and can be removed (although we usually leave them in unless they become an issue. It is an unnecessary procedure if everything healed well.) Occasionally one of the screws may become irritated and is taken out, but again, once the bone has healed it is safe to do.
