Facial Fillers and Autoimmune Disease Contraindications. What are alternative options if they are contraindicated?

Thank you for sharing your questions.  If your doctors clear you for treatment I do not see a reason that dermal fillers would be contraindicated.  If you would like to pursue alternative procedures, fat grafting may be a viable option.  Be sure to see an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon in consultation.  

 Hyaluronic fillers should not represent a problem since it is naturally occurring substance in the body. On the other hand, needle injection may cause reaction by your immune system. Discuss this with your family doctor and have him/her suggest you physician that can treat you. They would usually have to run many tests and conduct a test on small area, not tear trough since tear trough is sensitive and difficult to treat. Good luck!

Thanks for your question. Dermal fillers  most commonly consist hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body.  It shouldn't be a contraindication in autoimmune conditions. Behcet's Disease is a tough condition. I am sorry you are dealing with that.  Speak to your primary care physician and rheumatologist regarding fillers. If you stick to the Hyaluronic acid fillers you should be ok. Good Luck.

I can understand your frustration but as far as I know at Ideal Image you are to most likely to be seen by either a nurse or a physician assistant that are instructed to be extremely conservative and rightfully so. The problem with Behcet syndrome is that your body may overreact to an injury that an injection cannula or a needle may create. That is why it is important ot see an experiencet doctor who may first fully examine you and review the severity of the Behcet's , maybe administer pathergy test and start at a small test area as a control to determine any effects and possible usage of steroids. I personally do not see any contraindications in your case, especially as you say that the clinical condition is not severe. But all is to be determined by an experienced doctor in conjunction with your primary care physician. Hope this helps and good luck to you !!
