Dermal fillers and breastfeeding? Is there anything I can do to prevent any harm to my baby?

Hi, thanks for your question. We typically don't recommend that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding have dermal filler treatments. This is not necessarily because it's unsafe, we simply don't have enough scientific evidence to say whether it is safe or not, and with pregnancy and breastfeeding we prefer to always err on the side of caution. That being said, I wouldn't worry too much about it after the fact, and I don't think it warrants you stopping breastfeeding. If you're still worried don't hesitate to speak to your doctor.

It is doubtful that your filler treatment will have any negative impact on your breast milk. At this time it is recommended that women wait until they have finished breastfeeding before considering filler treatment as there are a lack of studies regarding its safety. I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your provider.

Relax, I doubt that you have done anything wrong and you should keep on nursing your baby as breast milk is best. I can't think of anything in filler that would get into your breast milk and be dangerous. The reason why we do not do these things in pregnancy and lactation is because safety has not been tested and the risk of liability if anything unrelated causes a problem but your treatment gets blamed. I recommend that my patients hold off on all elective procedures while pregnant and nursing and focus on what is most important.
