I am 67 years old and have been doing profractional laser treatments every few years, along with good skin care, sunscreen and winter mild to medium chemical peels. I have moderate sun damage with pronounced jowls yet minimal skin wrinkling. Would another profractional laser treatment give me the most for my money or would I achieve better results with three Tempsure skin tightening sessions?
Answer: Skin Tightening Treatment Options A skin tightening treatment might help you reduce the early jowl formation and other skin laxity you are seeing now. In my office, we use Ultherapy and Thermi - two devices that can produce excellent results in a single treatment session. Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to constrict tissue and boost collagen production. ThermiTight uses radiofrequency energy, which can be delivered deeper into the dermal layers via tiny probes. The result from a ThermiTight treatment is also constricted tissue and more collagen in the dermal structure. ThermiTight tends to be recommended for the jawline and neck, while Ultherapy works on the other areas of the face. I encourage you to schedule an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist who has expertise in nonsurgical skin tightening. A qualified provider will be able to customize a treatment plan for you to ensure the best possible results.

Answer: Both profractional laser and RF devices have their benefits Both profractional lasers and RF devices offer an excellent way to keep skin in top condition and ward off mild to moderate signs of aging. Lasers tend to be a better option for addressing sun damage and pigmentation concerns, while RF devices work solely to firm and tighten skin. The most important choice you can make is to work with a board-certified dermatologist who has expertise in these devices so your treatment can be tailored to your precise needs and desired results.

Answer: Tempsure or ProFractional? We have a lot of experience with both ProFractional laser and monopolar radiofrequency devices and both are rather limited in their ability to create easily visible improvements. If you are trying to improve the appearance of your skin (you mention that you have minimal skin wrinkling) then Broad Band Light (BBL) plus or minus a Halo laser (very effective with minimal downtime) would be recommended. If your jowls are your main concern, at your age, the only way to significantly improve them would be a surgical procedure. You may be a candidate for a minilift that can be performed in the office setting using local anesthesia. Downtime is minimal.Andrew Campbell, M.D.Facial Rejuvenation SpecialistQuintessa

Answer: Lasers and RF for sunspots Really depends on the clinical scenario. Lasers are great for TEXTURAL changes - sunspots etc.. whilst RF / Pelleve / Tempsure is good for laxity (mild to moderate). A higher coverage fractional laser can be used for SKs or even Profractional at multiple overlaps - say 22% with 2-3 passes. RF can be used prior to laser for skin tightening in the same procedure slot. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane, Australia.
