Can I still get lip fillers if I have scar tissue in my lip?

Question

I had a lip piercing several years ago that entered my skin under my lip and came out through the top of my actual lip. I decided I didn't like it and removed it. When my lips are stretched, you can see that there is visible scarring through the middle of my lip. I have always wanted lip fillers (nothing too big, just average natural looking lips). Would the fillers fill my lips evenly, or would it be uneven and unattractive due to my scar tissue?

It sounds as though your lip piercing is just a linear, midline scar through your lip. Without seeing or palpating your lip, I am just guessing that a surgeon experienced with fillers would be able to "work around" this midline scar. Significant scarring can even be disrupted or excised, in extreme cases.

Having a scar in your lips may prevent lip augmentation with fillers often but it really depends on the location and depth of the scar and how much augmentation you are desiring. Small scar bands can be disrupted by "cutting them with a fine knife blade or needle ". Once disrupted,filler can be used. Minor surgical excision and repair can also improve scars.A plastic surgeon can review these options.
