I have been researching Botox for my frown lines, and decided to go in for an appointment this week. Based on my research, I believe that around 20 units was standard for vertical frown lines, and I wanted to start very conservative. I am only in my mid 20's and have very faint wrinkles forming. The doctor recommended that I start with 30-32 units of Botox because I have strong muscles. This seemed very high to me. Is this a reasonable amount, or was he trying to upsell me?
Answer: Glabellar Lines / 11s / Frown Lines -- Neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin/Jeuveau), Fillers, Lasers, Microneedling/PRP "For glabellar lines (or frown lines / ""11"" lines), we inject Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport into the muscle, causing the muscle to weaken and improving the appearance of the lines. These work by binding to receptors that send nerve signals for muscles to contract. Since your body makes new receptors and neurotransmitters all the time, it needs to be maintained otherwise the wrinkles will slowly return as the muscle regains function over time. Neurotoxins take 2 to 4 weeks to start working and lasts for up to 6 months. For deeper glabella lines or strong 11s, I use a combination of Botox with fillers, lasers and microneedling with PRP. I suggest getting a formal evaluation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and expert in lasers and fillers. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Ideal Botox dose for Glabella As you know Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles that you use to frown. Its effect is dose dependent. If your muscles are big or if you use them a lot, you might be better off with a higher dose. In my practice I suggest a dose that I think is likely to work given the size and strength of the patients muscle. I'm not always right. Typically in women I would use 20 - 30 units for the Glabella. If its the first time you've come to see me I would use 20U to start then have you come back in 2 weeks to see if it was enough. Its not really a science, we just want to get the best result for each patient.

Answer: Botox treatment for the 11 ( eleven) glabellar frown creases of the forehead is unique for each patient in my NYC practice There is not only a different number of units that I might use for different patients based on their anatomy and size of the muscles which make the frown creases, but the exact insertion sites vary from patient to patient. My range for women in the glabella of the forehead has been from as low as 9 units (uncommon) to 35 units (not so common). Most women seem to get 20 to 25 units in my practice.

Answer: Botox for Frown Lines Thank you for your question. My typical starting dose of Botox on the Glabella is 20 units. However, if a patient has more muscle mass, I may start as high as 30 units. It is generally a good idea to schedule a follow-up appointment 2 weeks out to assess the results of the injections. If necessary a touch-up may be performed at that time with adjustment of future dosages planned at that time. I hope this was helpful - Dr. Moore.

Answer: Botox It depends on the area being injected. I would say that most adult faces need 40-60 units. Starting off with 32u sounds reasonable assuming the area is correct.
