How long should i expect the burn and hyperesthesia on my back after hip lipo?

As said before NSAIDs (likely ibuprofen or celebrex) or Neurontin or Lyrica are very useful for these sensations, which are normal, after surgery.  They will go away on their own, but if they persist, ask your physician about these other treatments.  I have success in also using doxepin at bedtime.  I have never had a patient with any permanent sensory changes.  I wish you the best of luck, Dr. Emer

Sensory changes after liposuction are common and usually  improve with time. Be patient it should get better. If concerned talk to your surgeon.

The sensations you are having after liposuction usually extend through about 4 months and gradually go away.    I have never seen them be permanent but duration varies greatly,   I give all patients gabapentin  300 mg every 6 hours.  Neurontin is another name for gabapentin.    This wonderful medicaltion has few side effects and can be taken for the full cycle of hypersensation.   Neurontin has been used for the burning diabetics get in their feet for many years. Diabetic  patients have been on this for many years.  Gabapentin is a membrane stabilizer and its exact method of function is not known.   One sure thing is that it really works.  My patients are so much more comfortable on Gabapentin.   You can adjust the dose according to time and need.   Often my patients take 300 mg every 8 hours during the day and 600mg at bedtime.   Gabapemtin comes  in up to 800 mg tablets so  there are dosing options.   Internists, endocrinologists and neurologists are very familiar with gabapentin and use it daily.    Discuss this with you plastic surgeon.   My Best,  Dr C
