From the front my lip looks like an average size, but from the side, it looks like I don’t have an upper lip, it curls down and the Cupid’s bow is a little fat. My lip almost appears as a beak. I really don’t like it. What can I do to fix this problem?

Thank you for your question. You seem to be an ideal candidate for lip augmentation, where there are both surgical (lip lifting) and non-surgical (lip filler) options. I suggest that you move forward and consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon to determine your candidacy.

You would get a nice improvement with lip fillers. These fillers, (Volbella, Restylane, Juvederm) are good to create a symmetrical lip. Nova threads can be used to improve lift and shape. Implants or fat are alternatives. Technique will be important here, so you'll want to see someone meticulous. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert.  sometime a surgical improvement with lip lift may help too.  Best, Dr. Emer

Ashlee. I would recommend conservative lip augmentation with Hyaluronic Acid, like Juvederm Ultra plus to see if you like the look. Another option is fat transfer which is more permanent. It is done under local anesthesia and fat is usually taken from the lower abdomen or thighs. Studies show that at least 1/3 of transferred fat last forever. Seek out a board certified plastic surgeon in your area, Good Luck!

Lip augmentations with fillers is a great option to improve the fullness, suppleness and symmetry of the lips and can enhance shape. Results can be very natural-looking and will feel very natural. I prefer to use a micro cannula to inject the lips to prevent bruising. Look for a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon who is an expert in fillers to discuss your desired results and concerns.

A hyaluronic acid based filler like Restylane could be added to the lower lip to improve upper to lower proportions. It would be helpful to see the lips from the front as well. I recommend you schedule an in person consultation with a local aesthetic physician to discuss your concerns and options.

Hi, I have performed many lip augmentation procedures using dermal fillers or lip implants for over 30 years. From the photos, your upper lip is very thin on both sides.  Following my beauty principles, the lips should be full with the upper lip approximately 75 % the size of the lower lip for the lips to appear balanced. The sides of the upper lip can be augmented using a dermal filler.
Dermal fillers and lip implants offer a much more reliable volume for augmentation of the lips than permanent fillers or fat injections which are associated with increased, unwanted, side effects.
