Is my ear deformed or is this just normal? (photos)

Question

Over the past five years I've been noticing that my ears have been becoming more pointed my right ear has always pointed at the top but now my left ear is starting to change shape as well and it's not like it's happening overnight it's something that's generally happening. Is no longer around like it was my whole life but now it's odd oval shape at the top. Is this normal I am a 24 year old African American male and I have other males in my family with pointed ears as well.

Your photos suggest a Stahl's deformity, in which the upper limb of the Y-shaped antihelical cartilage fold points up and backwards, instead of forward.  This is also sometimes called a Spock ear, and leads to a pointy ear.  Considered a congenital deformity, Stahl's ear likely has some genetic background.  Within the newborn period, this can be treated with ear molding/ non-surgical splinting; this treatment relies on the very soft and pliable baby ear cartilage, made soft by circulating maternal estrogens.  Older children and adults with Stahl's are best treated with surgical reshaping of the ear.

Hello! Based on your photos, it appears you have what is known as a Stahl's ear deformity. This is a congenital ear deformity where an extra fold of cartilage developed in the scapha portion of your ear, giving it the pointed appearance. In the first 3 weeks of life, these types of deformities can be corrected or improved using non-surgical ear molding. However, in older children or adults, surgery would be required to help reshape or excise the malformed cartilage and improve the overall appearance of the ears. Good luck!
