Hi. I'm 21 year old, and I had a octoplasty surgery like 10 months ago. I feel that my ear from the upper ear is not all the way back I don't like the scar on the middle of the ear is like am telling everyone, hey I had a octoplasty surgery done. I wouldn't care too much about my scar if my ear were all the way back, but my ear is not all the way back and had a scar. I ask my family and friends how my ears look and they say it's look fine that is only my imagination, but I know what see.
Answer: Post-Operative Ear Surgery Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having this experience after your otoplasty. I would be sure to follow up with your surgeon to discuss your concerns. At 10 months out from surgery, most of the swelling should be resolved. If you still have some unwanted protrusion of the ears, I would discuss this with your surgeon, as you may need a revision. You may also need an injection of steroid into the incision to help this settle. It is not uncommon to still have some asymmetry in the ears, while they are still swollen. If you seek out a second opinion, be sure to consult with a board certified facial plastic or plastic surgeon, who specializes in otoplasty. Here you will have a full evaluation and will able to discuss your goals for a revision. I hope this helps!-David Gilpin

Answer: Not Happy with Otoplasty result Assuming that you had your otoplasty surgery performed by a board certified Facial Plastic Surgeon with vast experience in Otoplasty Surgery-you may want to return for a follow-up appointment with your surgeon. Otoplasty surgery may sometimes take 12 to 18 months to completely settle following surgery, and occasionally, for ears that are quite asymmetric in the first place-we may have to use injectables such as steroids to settle areas of prolonged swelling, and may occasionally need to do minor touch ups to achieve perfect symmetry in the operated area. The key to any intervention or modification is having the patience to wait for the surgery to settle-then make another appointment with your surgeon so they can help keep you on the track for achieving that perfect result . Good luck to you and your new ears!!

Answer: Concerns after otoplasty I am sorry to hear about your concerns after your otoplasty. While some swelling and scarring from any surgery can last several months, any concerns about the healing process should be brought up with your surgeon. Some residual swelling and scarring and often be improved with conservative treatments. An injection of steroids into areas of scarring can help slowly improve their appearance. Some swelling even several months out is not uncommon, however, it is still something that your surgeon should take a look at. Also, if you are not sure about your result, I think it can be helpful to look at your before-and-after photos with your surgeon. Often it is difficult to remember what your ears looked like before the surgery. Comparing photos can also help identify any asymmetry or other problems that may be going on. Best of luck!
