I have not been out in the sun at all without is clinical spf 50+ sunscreen, giant sunglasses, and a large floppy hat. Other than a post op visit on day one (I wore a giant hat and glasses in the car) I didn't go out during daylight hours until post op day 6. Are these grid marks normal? How long before I should become concerned? My board certified plastic surgeons office is prescribing nothing other than the is clinical post op kit for post procedure skin at this point. Pre & 2 week pictures.
Answer: Improving Skin after Co2--try fraxel, microneedling/prp, radiofrequency, sculptra, skin care, Cosmelan I recommend following up with your Doctor about after care and recommendations. For after care, I recommend skin care with vitamin c, b5 hydrator, silicone based scar gels with growth factors and enzymatic washes with papaya enzyme. PDT therapy can help calm inflammation. Sun protection is essential. Typically I recommend adding clear and brilliant, fraxel, viva 4-6 weeks after co2 to improve this along with microneedling/prp to get the best outcomes with texture and tone. Please see an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Patchy Skin after Laser Resurfacing It is normal to have patchy redness 2 weeks after ablative laser resurfacing. The skin is not treated equally in all places and reacts differently to the laser energy. Fractional laser by definition is only treating a portion of the skin meaning some of the skin is treated more than other areas. This irregular redness will gradually resolve over time but can last several weeks to months. Follow up with your treating physician for post op care. Sunblock and make up can be a big help in the first few months.

Answer: Residual inflammation Don't worry, it's a minor delay in recovery. Followup with your doctor. It is likely what you're using for post treatment skin care is comprised of something your skin does not agree with. On rare occasions it happens where inflammation occurs. Your PS will likely quickly identify the culprit and place you on something else. In the mean time, Switch to the old standby post treatment moisturizer - good old Crisco shortening you can buy at any supermarket. Keep moist with Crisco until you can get into your plastic surgeon. Your PS will likely place you on a silicon anti scaring gel/ointment with some growth factors, a hydrator with some vitamins in it, vitamin C serum. Photo therapy would also be beneficial. I'd avoid any enzymatic washes until marks with redness resolve. Once past the redness, the washes shouldn't act in an inflammatory way and be beneficial. If they do, back off on them and try at a later date. You've taken the first step toward beautiful skin. It is important to understand the treatment life can be significantly extended. Plan on an IPL every 3-4 months and budget allowing add microneedling with PRP. A non ablative or mildly ablative fractional once or twice a year would not hurt. Mix and match as budget permits. Stay with organic cosmetics, avoid chemical based. Keeping your skin beautiful is a journey, but the rewards are well worth it. Wishing you a full and beautiful resolution. Warmly, Arbella Sarkis, MD

Answer: Normal reaction- take photos every 3 weeks Grids are normal. Last between 1 week all the way to 6 months. It depends on the wavelength, but also the laser energy, and most importantly the PD or pulse duration of the laser. Grids will fade (as photos have shown) in time. Take photos every 3 weeks, and you will see them fade over time. If they do not totally resolve at 6 months I use gentle lasers like laser genesis, Pico, or C and B - 1927 Fraxel to remove grinding. Rest assuressed in 97% of cases, gridding fades, provide PD of lasers are kept short. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Laser dermatologist. Brisbane. Australia.
