I am having muscle repair after breast implant removal. I will, of course, follow my surgeons directions post-op. However Id like to get thoughts on this, as Im starting to plan my aftercare and the level of support I will need. I know muscle repairs can take 6-8 weeks to heal. I am trying to avoid putting too much strain on the sutured muscle too soon. Do you think planning 4 weeks (1 month) without movements will support my pectoralis muscle in optimal healing? Longer? Thanks!
Answer: Pectoralis muscle repair The first part of the rehab process consists of managing the pain and swelling and initiating a range of motion in the shoulder and arm. Most patients can expect a return to normal daily activities in approximately 6 weeks. Light strength training usually begins about 2 to 3 months after surgery. The healing and rehab process can take anywhere from 6 months to a year after a surgical pectoralis repair.

Answer: Recovery Your surgeon is the best one to guide you through the recovery process. You will likely have compression after surgery to support healing tissues and manage swelling. Activity level will be determined by your surgeon. This will include lifting restrictions.

Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear SSLacey,I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery.
