Aesthetic results of surgery for Trigonocephaly as an adult. (photos)

Question

I've a prominent metopic suture, close-set eyes, a rounder, narrower forehead, and an odd fronto-temporal angle caused by Trigonocephaly. I have provided pictures on the temporal hollowing--the most obvious deformity. What can I expect to be fixed in surgery and what is the estimated cost?

Thank you for your question. The best idea for you would be to seek a plastic surgeon with craniofacial experience. True trigonocephaly is usually treated early with a transcranial procedure and reshaping of the forehead. As an adult, depending on the severity, this approach can be utilized or alternatively masking procedures such as onlay implants and bone contouring. I have had good results for temporal hollowing with fat grafting but the other alternative is custom implants that can be designed to fill the hollowing on a permanent basis. Similar custom made implants can also be used to improve forehead contour. There are options available but you should seek an opinion from a craniofacial specialist.RegardsDr Guy Watts

As an adult the treatment of the sequelae of metopic craniosynostosis is going to be cosmetic camouflage not removal and reshaping of the bone. Temporal hollowing is best treated by standard or extended temporal implants placed on top of the muscle. This is a simple and permanent solution for temporal hollowing.

I've seen great results with Voluma for temporal hollowing (that came from advanced age and as an adverse effect from certain neurosurgical procedures). Voluma lasts up to 2 years, and may last longer.You can also consider fat transfer but I would try the dermal filler first to see how you like the look.Cost estimates for surgery will have to come from your surgeon, but Voluma is a little over $1000 per syringe, of which you may need 2 but you can see the result you get with 1 and add if necessary.Best wishes!
