Light, easy walking immediately after surgery is recommended because it can help facilitate the healing process, moving nourishing oxygen to your incisions and reducing the risk of a blood clot. Start with some brief walking around your house for the first few days, and slowly increase your step count as you heal. After 3 days or so, you may feel well enough to go outside and take a stroll around the block. Don't expect to get back to 15,000 steps a day until around a month after your surgery. Before then, it's important to keep your pulse at a resting rate in order to avoid any irregularities with the healing process. Slowly work up to your previous amount of walking, and ease off if you feel fatigued or uncomfortable.
Thank you very much for yourquestion and congratulations on your upcoming Mommy Makeover. This customizedset of surgical procedures is performed on an outpatient basis, so you will behome resting the same day. You will be up and walking on your own thatafternoon, as well. For the first several days, you will be tired and sore, solisten carefully to your body. You can return to light, daily activities in thenext few days. Strenuous exercise, however, should be postponed for four to sixweeks. More than likely, by this time, you will be getting close to achievingyou 15,000 steps, once again.
I have my patients walk a few steps the night of surgery. I'm guess you are referring to exercise walking and in my practice week 4-6 we start entertaining this. Of course you need to consult your operating surgeon prior to any activity.
Thank you for question, I would ask your PS directly about his or her course of recovery as every surgeon has a different protocol. With that said, you will be able to get up and walk around the first day after a tummy tuck, though you will not be doing 15,000 steps. Most patients should be able to return to work 5-7 days after the surgery, and resume most activities after 5-7 weeks. After a tummy tuck procedure, it is important for a patient to maintain a healthy lifestyle to ensure optimal results, however, jumping back into a rigorous workout regimen too quickly after a tummy tuck surgery can make recovery more difficult and longer. It is important to start slowly and listen to your body. Patients may typically start to resume light exercise two weeks after the surgery, but heavy lifting of weight more than 15 lb, sit-ups, and crunches should not resume until 8 weeks after the surgery.Good luck!
You should check with your surgeon about this, for my patients, I want them up and walking the day after surgery but not at your usual pace. By the end of the first week I want them to be walking around the house frequently and then return to usual exercise routine at about 6 weeks. Good luck!
Thank you for your question. After a mommy makeover, Patients can return to light activities like walking almost immediately after surgery, normal activities 2 weeks after surgery, and vigorous exercise 4 weeks after surgery. We usually experience a slow steady improvement for 3 months or so after surgery.
Promoting circulation after mommy makeover is helpful for preventing the development of blood clots in your legs. Ambulating around your home every 2 hours or so is helpful in this regard. I do not recommend walking miles in the early postoperative period particularly if liposuction is performed - risk for fluid collection and increased swelling is increased. Not sure, but if 15,000 steps a day is equivalent to walking approximately 6 – 7 ½ miles a day, that's too much. Patients can return to light walking within two weeks; walking on a treadmill at four weeks; and walking several miles at six weeks. You will have to listen to your body and not overdo the exercise. Also check with your plastic surgeon during post-op visits to determine his or her recommendation.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Thank you for the question! I actually encourage my patients to engage in light walking around the house shortly after surgery. This simple exercise promotes healing process and helps in preventing blood clots that may develop in legs after a long period of inactivity. You may return to work and resume other ordinary activities in about a week, but still avoid strenuous exercise. Since walking 15,000 steps counts as a strenuous activity, I'd recommend waiting another month or two before you get back to your usual exercise routine. An in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon is the best way to assess your needs and obtain expert medical advice. Best of luck!
You will be encouraged to walk at least around your home right after surgery. You will gradually be able to increase your activity level as you heal based on how you progress through recovery, but you can expect it to be several weeks before you will be able to walk 15000 steps. Speak with your surgeon about activity level restrictions.
Thank you for the question. Your plastic surgeon will be your best resource when it comes to determining the return to specific activities after the specific procedures performed. Remember, that he/she is ultimately responsible for your care.Having said that, I ask my tummy tuck patients to start walking ASAP after surgery but refrain from any heavy-lifting or strenuous exercise for 6-8 weeks to prevent complications/swelling and ensure proper healing. It may be 4-6 months before you reach your full energy and strength levels. Best to “go slow” and listen to your body as you gradually increase or activity level. Best wishes.
