I want to get a mommy makeover this summer. I workout 4 times a week, am a teacher, & have 4 kids. I will be traveling overseas later this summer (16 hr flight) and was hoping to have surgery after I return. The first office that I called told me that their policy is no travel 14 days PRIOR to surgery. This significantly affects my ability to get back to work on time. I have not seen much info about this online...any information about travel prior to a TT/BA&BL is appreciated!

Answer: Long travel prior to Mommy Makeover Hello! The concern with travel is related to elevated risk of blood clots. As long as you remain well hydrated, walk throughout the flight and make sure your belt is not tight around your waist you should be ok. If you can wait a week until after travel you may consider a baby aspirin for your travel day. Two weeks is on the conservative side - you may want to have further discussion with your surgeon.

Answer: Travel BEFORE cosmetic surgery It's always best to abide by what your surgeon directs leading up to, and after, surgery. That said, other than making sure you are healthy, well rested and well nourished heading into surgery, I am not aware of any benefit to placing travel restrictions on patients PRIOR to surgery. On a 16 hour flight you need to be very aware of the potential for developing a blood clot with prolonged inactivity in cramped quarters, so it would be best to get up and walk around and stretch at least every few hours if not more. You should hydrate well as well. Best of luck to you.
