SPF after micro needling?

Hello! I got micro needling done and I am hearing conflicting advice on aftercare. A few hours after micro needling, about 3 or 4pm, I left the house and ran some errands and then stayed inside the rest of the night. The UV index was high, about a 9. I did not wear any spf after my micro needling. Now I’m very worried that I further damaged my skin that I just got a procedure on as Microneedling makes you extra exposed to the sun and I didn’t wear spf… what is the correct after care with spf?

It's understandable to be concerned about skin care after microneedling, especially given the increased sensitivity to UV exposure. Here's some guidance on proper aftercare, including SPF use:

Immediate Aftercare: After microneedling, your skin is more vulnerable and sensitive. It's typically recommended to avoid direct sunlight for at least 24-48 hours post-procedure to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation and other damage.

SPF Usage: Applying a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is crucial once you start going outside again. Ideally, you should use a physical (mineral) sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, as these are less likely to irritate the sensitive skin post-treatment.

Day of the Procedure: On the day of the microneedling, many practitioners advise avoiding any skincare products, including SPF, immediately after the treatment to allow the skin to start its healing process. However, if you need to go outside, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and seeking shade can provide some protection.

Following Days: From the next day onward, ensure you apply SPF every morning and reapply every 2 hours if you are outdoors. Continue to avoid prolonged sun exposure and wear protective clothing and hats whenever possible.

Given that you went outside without SPF on the day of your treatment, monitor your skin for any signs of increased redness, irritation, or hyperpigmentation. If you notice any concerning changes, it would be wise to consult with your dermatologist or the professional who performed the microneedling for personalized advice and potential treatments.

Remember, post-procedure care is crucial for optimal results and to prevent any complications. Moving forward, be diligent with your SPF application and protective measures to keep your skin healthy and protected.
