Dear tammy 1, Thank you for your clinical post. In the absence of a photograph a description of your tattoo sounds multi-coloured with a predominance of blue. At SpaMedica I’ve been performing laser tattoo removal for well over 15 years. We have one of the largest laser tattoo removal experiences in the country. With the evolution in the last 4 or 5 years the Pico wavelength of lasers there’s a PicoWay and PicoSure. The PicoWay comes with a Picosecond 1064 Nd YAG and 532. The PicoSure comes with a Picosecond pulse duration 755 Alexandrite and a 532 nm wavelength. In general, the Picosecond is always the way to go with tattoo removal, is the shorter pulse duration leads to more efficient and more rapid removal with less thermal stimulation and less risk of hypopigmentation. The Picosecond is more photomechanical than photothermal. However, different wavelengths even in the Picosecond pulse duration can be performed differently on different colours. In my experience, by far the most important Picosecond wavelength to remove blue is a 755 nm wavelength. The neodymium YAG 1064 is good for dark ink in the Picosecond pulse duration and dark ink on dark skin. For blue colours, yellow, purple and light green the 755 Alexandrite is superior. For red and orange, the 532 nm is superior and for very dark or ink on dark skin the 1064 is superior. For your tattoo it appears that the PicoSure would be your best option and you should seek out centres with lots of experience with tattoo removal as well as having the PicoSure and for added improvement in dark skin/dark ink the PicoWay. I hope this information has been of some assistance and best of luck. For more information, please review the link below. Also review the entire section on laser tattoo removal. R.
