How long will it take for a lip bruise from Restylane Refyne lip injections to heal? (photos)

Question

I had Restylane Refyne lip injections w/ a blunt tip cannula yesterday evening. My injector told me I may bruise on the bottom left corner of my lip (it was bleeding more). Sure enough, I have a dark bruise there. How long will this bruise need to heal? I was advised to not workout for 3 full days (also had Volbella in my tear troughs - no bruising there though). If I have the bruise on my lip, do I have to wait even longer than 72 hours to workout now?

Hello, and thank you for your question. Bruising can vary from person to person, but I usually advise patients most bruises can resolve in 2 weeks. Bruising can heal more quickly with no alcohol consumption, limiting exercise for the first 24-48 hours, and by not taking NSAIDs (Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve) or blood thinning agents. Exercise can cause increased swelling to the area which could cause bruising to worsen. OTC supplements that can help with bruising are topical arnica gel or oral arnica. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question and photos. Bruising is a common side effect of filler treatments, particularly in sensitive areas like the lips. Rest assured this bruise will likely subside within about 2 weeks. In the meantime, you can try ice and Arnica to see if you can get the bruise to improve any sooner. I believe you should be able to resume workouts 24 hours after your treatment without making the bruise worse or extending your healing time. A bruise after any filler injection on the face is a common side effect.  Usually a bruise may last up to 2 weeks but it could be longer. Applying Arnica gel to the area as well as ice packs for the first 48 hrs helps.Another treatment to break down the bruise is a vbeam laser since it helps the blood to disperse making the bruise go away faster.  Hope this is helpful information

You may have swelling and/or bruising, which can last 1-2 weeks after lip injections. Icing and VBeam treatments can give improvement. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Bruising after filler can be very common. If there is any pain out of proportion than what you think think you should be feeling, I recommend following up with your injector. Typically, most bruises will go away in about 2 weeks. You can help the bruising heal quicker by applying Arnica gel. There are also certain laser treatments that can be used to help break up the clot that is causing the bruise more quickly. I hope this helps!

I know this question was asked a while ago, but if I saw this, I would be concerned about occlusion. The lower lip looks pale but if this was there before, then its just a bruise. I now use ultrasound to evaluate flow in these questionable cases. I use a vascular laser for bruising, Excel V, which will make the bruise go away in 1-2 treatments. I don't think that after 24 hours, exercise will lead to more bruising. Arnica will also help.

Hello - thank you for the questions and photos. Bruising is extremely common with lip augmentation. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot you can do to make it go away super quickly. You can buy some Arnica tablets and take those to reduce the longevity of the bruising. Try to ice on and off for a few days as well.

That looks like a dark bruise so it usually take a little bit of time to go away. Vbeam laser and arnica are proven to help. Bottom line is it will go away, my guess 2 weeks, but in the end the above are the only things you can do about it!

Thank you for your question. Bruising is an expected and normal side effect after any dermal filler injection especially in the lips. It can take up to two weeks for bruising to completely resolve. Should it persist longer or your have additional concerns, be sure to follow up with your provider.

Bruising and swelling is completely normal and may last 1 – 2 weeks post injections. Cold compress can be used to minimize the bruising and swelling and potential speed up the healing process. I recommend a herbal supplement called Arnica to help speed up the recovery following injections. (Avoid Arnica if you have an allergy to shellfish.) Follow your injectors post-op instructions and notify them of any concerns. Good luck!
