I had the trimming method 12 days ago, I have a defined line down both sides of my labia. In some places it scabs a little, but not in other places. I have a lot of stitches in my labia, just not over the top where the incision is. Is this normal& will it all heal/close completely over time or should I ask my doctor to add more stitches over the top because I think it's not fusing together properly? I just don't want to heal with a line down both my labia. Any info would be appreciated!
Answer: OK healing for trim method It looks like your doctor did the trim method and used sutures that are above the skin. I perform the extended wedge with no visible sutures and a hidden scar. Your results look typical and are healing OK for the trim method.

Answer: Trim labiaplasty and the "line" down the middle. Also: can the surgeon "...add stitches" later? Your incision line looks 100% normal. You had a well-performed LP; I think when all healed (will take 3-4 months) all will look pleasingly aesthetic. FYI, surgeons CAN NOT place additional sutures in an incision after 36-48 hours after surgery; they will not "take," and may increase chance for infection. Additionally, the "trim" method always involves a "line" down the middle of the incision; after months it will mostly disappear.Best wishes for an uneventful recovery. It looks nice!Michael P Goodman MD

Answer: Labiaplasty 12 days post op DEAR CM03Congrats on you new labiaplasty. It appears to be healing very well. You do NOT want the sutures over the top of the incision as this often give the patient a scalloped look ( like the back of a dragon). Your surgery healing is progressing well. Try to relax and allow nature to take its course. Best of luckJohn R Miklos MDCosmetic Vaginal SurgeryAtlanta ~ Beverly Hills ~ Dubai

Answer: Labiaplasty 12 days post op. Is this normal for incision line? Thank you for sharing your question and photograph. It appears you have had a very nice result. With a trim labiaplasty procedure a resultant scar runs along the entire length of the edge of your labia where the excess tissue was removed. Though this scar will not completely disappear it will soften and fade with time to be nearly imperceptible. Hope this helps.

Answer: Normal healing at 2 weeks post labiaplasty Thank you for your great question and congratulations on you very nice Labiaplasty. You have stitches along the sides of your labia so that the inner and outer edges of each labia will heal naturally. What you notice as an area that is "not fusing together properly" is normal healing, you do not need additional sutures here and it's too late to add any sutures this far from surgery. In my practice I remove these same sutures between postop day 5 and 7. The result is a natural result with no scarring and a very comfortable recovery since as soon as the sutures are removed your current discomfort from the sutures goes away immediately. This hasn't resulted in any incision separation. The sutures are causing an inflammatory reaction and are the source of your swelling. At six weeks there will be minimal swelling.Best of luck,
