I’m 5’3, weigh about 115 lbs. I never paid attention before and I just noticed them. They’re so obvious and they’re bothering me. How can I correct this?
Answer: Gluteal fold You can't. These creases are formed as we develop. Some people have long ones, short ones, two of them, three of them. It is the same as trying to change the crease location in your cheek or your arm. It is impossible to change because those creases are how deeper structures in the body attach to the bone and to the skin. Many decades ago people tried to liposuction here and it cerated disastrous results with the butt sliding lower. So don't do anything to try to "correct" them because they are not broken. Here is a video explaining it better.

Answer: Addressing Double Gluteal Fold: Liposuction and Surgical Options Hi Graceful7080, Thank you for your question regarding how to eliminate a double gluteal fold and for providing a picture to aid in understanding your concern. The most effective way to treat a double gluteal fold, commonly referred to as a “banana roll,” is through liposuction. Given that the defect in your case is relatively mild, I would recommend conservative liposuction. CoolSculpting might not be the best option in your situation, as it could potentially freeze an excessive amount of fat uncontrollably. Controlled liposuction offers a more precise approach. Should the defect have been more severe, a surgical resection of the banana roll might be considered. This procedure involves placing an incision underneath the buttock to remove a crescent-shaped portion of skin and fat from the upper thigh. The resulting scar would be discreetly positioned underneath the buttocks. However, based on your provided picture, I don’t believe your double gluteal fold or banana roll is severe enough to necessitate this more extensive surgical intervention. I hope this information assists in determining the best course of action for resolving your double gluteal fold. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FASMBS, FICS Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeon

Answer: Treating the banana roll All people will have a skin redundancy on the upper back of the thigh while in an upright standing position. Joints that have a significant range of motion like the hips require some skin redundancy to allow the range of motion. Everybody understands the skin redundancy on the lower abdomen when the hips are flexed like in a sitting position. Most people don’t worry about this because it’s obvious and happens to everyone. opposite of flexion is extension and in this position the skin redundancy happens in the area you describe. The problem is not related to fat distribution, and Liposuction typically does not fix the problem and can cause undesirable secondary issues. The area called that you describe. It is normal and present on lots of people. It’s better to leave it alone, except it as being normal just like you get a hold on your lower abdomen when you’re sitting. Attempt at treatment typically don’t fix the problem and create new issues you didn’t have before. There’s no shortage of plastic surgeons in Susie Astec we claiming they can fix it with Liposuction but my experience haven’t been doing this for a long time focusing exclusively on Liposuction for well over 10 years has taught me to avoid attempting to treat the area. I’ve seen only failures and disappointments and never seen quality outcomes from any attempt. The only thing I’ve seen work, attempted restoration and correcting surgery that should’ve never been performed. Your body is normal and you don’t need surgery. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
