It's not "normal" but it can occur - and, when it does, it's often just the way you describe it. Multiple lipomas, with a bluish color, firm and (often) painful. These are typically angiolipomas, which are a little different from the more common single and larger lipomas, which are made up of a much greater proportion of fatty tissue. The angiolipomas, by contrast, have some fat but also connective tissue and blood vessels, hence their firmer feel. The treatment for these is surgical removal. This can be accomplished with a small incision directly over each lipoma. If you're having just a few removed, you can have it done under local anesthesia alone. For more of them, you can consider intravenous sedation or even general anesthesia to provide comfort during what can be a several hour procedure, depending on how many you're having removed.I'd recommend consultations with several board-certified plastic surgeons who can examine you in person, after which you'll be able to make a more informed decision as to how you want to proceed.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of RealSelf100
