Hello, I had my surgery 4 days ago (liposuction only) and I woke up today feeling really great. My doctor told me no sex for 2 weeks but I'm wondering if there is any harm in masturbation?
Answer: Strenous activity after surgery Like most things, post operative guidelines and restriction are on the conservative side so that it can capture within it's safety net, the most number of patients. I advise patients to abstain from intense physical exertion, including sexual activities, for at least 1-2 weeks. However, this varies depending on the amount of bruising afterwards, the extent of the surgery, and the type and duration of the activity. I routinely see patients the day after surgery and after 1 week and based on their recovery and those things previously mentioned, can tailor and adjust a patient's post operative activity schedule.

Answer: Strenuous activity post surgery It's good news that you are feeling so great. However, you want to make certain that you do not adversely affect your results which is why I would recommend abstaining from sexual activity either alone or with a partner for at least a week. You don't want to raise your heart rate as it can cause bleeding. Two weeks is probably a little too conservative. Just use your common sense. Hope this helps --

Answer: Masturbation post Gynecomastia Surgery The most important thing after surgery is that there is no strenuous activity, not to much arm movement or pressure on the pectoral muscles. It is more important to assure proper healing than anything else at this point.

Answer: I am sure it is fine. i also think that your surgeon is being quite conservative expecting you not to have sex for 2 weeks. i think it is very unlikely that having sex (obviously you have to use some commonsense and you are not going to set some Olympic record) will cause bleeding after your surgery. i allow my patients to have sex much sooner and i ask that they try not to get their heart rates way up for too long during the first week. however, even then it is unlikely to cause bleeding. i am sure you will be fine.david berman md
