Removing dressings after gynecomastia surgery? My surgery was 11 days ago.

Question

After having gynecomastia surgery I have my dressings on each nipple , they are 10x10 cm patches , when would you advise to remove the dressings only as I am aware that I need to keep my compression garment on for 6-8 weeks.

Every surgeon has their own post operative regimen for management of the incision as well as removal of dressings. Unless on for another reason, most dressings are removed 48 hours after surgery. Check with your plastic surgeon.

Hello, dressings are placed on surgical incisions. You should contact your surgeon when to remove them,  he/she may want to remove them themselves or keep them on for longer. This is all variable in terms of how we do dressing care. In theory skin forms a barrier 24-48 hrs after surgery. I usually remove the dressing around 10 days and may reapply another dressing for pressure (scar therapy) keep compression garment for 6 weeks.

I typically remove any dressings much earlier than 11 days. Speak with your surgeon as he or she knows your case best.

Have you had a word with your PS yet. Normally all dressings come off 48 hours after surgery and i for one, dont like to put any dressing at all after that. Just the pressure garment for 3 weeks.
