Rhinoplasty months after nasal spray addiction? How long does damage from over-use of decongestant spray last?

Question

I haven't used any decongestant nasal spray (except for 1 time a few weeks ago with bad spring allergies) for over 6 months now, but before I quit I was using them every night for a few months to help with congestion. I quit when I realized how bad it was to use for such long periods of time. I don't think it caused any lasting damage from what I can tell, but can it effect future rhinoplasty results? I am wanting the surgery three months from now.

Using nasal decongestants over a long period of time results in what is called a rebound effect.  If you undergo rhinoplasty, it may be worthwhile to reduce some of the nasal tissue on the inside called turbinates.  This will give you a much bette postoperative airway and is a simple procedure to perform at the same time as your rhinoplasty.

It's very important to stay off any nasal spray before, and after a cosmetic rhinoplasty. It is acceptable to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure 3-6 months after you've been completely off of any addictive nasal sprays

Constant use of decongestants can cause swelling and interfere with normal nasal function. After 6 months of avoiding these products the ling should have recovered. This can be determined by your surgeon with an examination before surgery.

I use 3 months as a cutoff. This is probably arbitrary, but when your nose is accustomed to them there can be blood flow and healing issues. We want to make sure healing is the best it can be. By 3 months the effects should be gone and healing re-established. Your surgeon will need to make sure there are no septal perforations. Hope this helps.
