BBL recovery - foam boards? What do I really need?

There are a lot of opinions out there on what you "need" after a BBL procedure. The garment is most important to reduce swelling and help skin tighten. I get one for my patients that has openings in the buttocks so as not to compress the new fat. The new fat needs to gain a good blood supply in order to survive, so less pressure and trauma to that area is better. Some patients have bought booty type pillows to alleviate the pressure while sitting, but standard pillows under the back of your legs under the buttocks will work just fine too. Every surgeon is different in terms of what they might recommend post-op. Not all use foam or even compression garments.  Best to follow your surgeon's instructions.

Some patients purchase foam boards and recommend using them. We provide our patients with a compression garment and a special BBL pillow. Consult your surgeon for post op instructions since each surgeon has a slightly different protocol.

It is up to you on how much you want to buy for your surgery. I use Design Veronique BBL garments. Most of my patients need to go down a size during the 4-6 weeks after surgery, so they end up purchasing a 2nd compression garment. After the 6 weeks it is optional to continue to wear a garment but should no longer be a 1st stage garment as this can lead to permanent indentations. I love foam boards, but do not make my patients buy them - it is optional but encourages. I recommend the Booty Buddy pillow to help with sitting in the early post op period. I ask my patients to stay off of their buttocks for 10 days. 

I'm guessing you're having your procedure outside of the United States.
Almost all plastic surgeons in the United States supply compression garments and abdominal foam if needed.
You should contact the actual Doctor Who will perform your procedure and ask him or her what you need.
