I'm a 27 year old male looking into getting a hair transplant. I have diffuse thinning on the top of my scalp but still have okay coverage. I have been quoted anywhere from 3K to 4500 grafts to get complete coverage. Can I get a transplant & still retain the current hairs I have. I have read that hair transplants before 30 can cause permanent shock loss. I cannot take oral fin as it causes me way too many side effects & am on topical fin & minox at the moment. Would prp during help as well?
Answer: Hair Loss Hair loss has many causes, including stress, medications, autoimmune, genetic, trauma, etc. Medical treatments can work and options would include finasteride (propecia), minoxidil (rogaine), PRP (platelet rich plasma), laser light therapy, and vitamins. It is often uncertain which medical therapy will help which patient and so a combination of therapies is typically recommended to maximize benefit. A hair transplant is a surgical option and is appropriate for certain conditions and individuals. In your case, photos would help give you a better sense of what is possible. 4500 grafts sounds like a lot especially at your age. You would not want to take from areas that will eventually miniaturize anyway. Consult with an experienced hair restoration surgeon for a complete range of options that are appropriate for your situation. Gary Linkov, MD Facial Plastic Surgeon in Manhattan

Answer: Hair Transplant Thanks for the question. Based on your photos, the 4000-5000 grafts might be good option for you, but it would be wrong to say something for sure. You should see a board certified surgeon. You can then plan the process together and discuss the results. I wish you all the best.

Answer: Diffuse thinning hair transplant A great first step would be an online consultation. Often you can submit photos to top hair restoration surgeons for a complimentary evaluation. This should help lead you in the right direction. Having multiple consultations with different doctors cannot hurt.

Answer: Hair loss You have typical genetic male pattern hair loss but your donor hair is good and you are a good candidate for hairtransplant. Since hairloss is progressive, a combination of medical hair treatment in addition to hair transplant is recommended. You need to fond a qualified experienced hair restoration surgeon to get evaluated. Unfortunately doctors have different approaches and the number of grafts and techniques may be different from one doctor to another. It is best to do your own research, look at alot of doctors patient photos and even talk to previous clients before choosing the specialist. You need to be comfortable with your doctor before proceeding with the procedure.
