Redness in right implant nearly 2 months after breast augmentation and lift. Is this normal? (photo)

Question

I had this procedure in Jan, and overall my healing went very well. I was briefly on antibiotics due to a POSSIBLE infection but I have since finish that prescription and over all I feel fine. The redness in my left breast however (the one which has the implant & lift), hasn't been reduced by much even in these 2 months - right was implant only. What I want to know is if this could in any way be normal? I have an appointment in 2 weeks & would prefer not to have to travel if not necessary.

Thanks for the question. 2 months is too early to say something. 6-12 months is enough time to see the permanent results for the breast lift with implants operation. I wish you all the best.

redness of breast can be a sign of infection. I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.

This redness is not good. You must see your surgeon and get evaluation and treatment. It is cellulitis and can progress to full fledged inflammation.

Dear VioletNovaSkye93,Thank you for your question.  In lieu of the fact that yo had a possible infection on the left previously, and that the same side is red now I would communicate what is going on with your surgeon.  I am sure you could end photos to the office and get an opinion from  them as to how they'd like you to proceed.  So I would recommend discussing ti with your surgeon.  Good luck & hope this helpsJames Sheridan, MD

Limited by a single photo, I can't discern among possible infection, inflammation, or allergic reaction (rash). It is of moderate intensity.  It is noted that you had more extensive surgery on the left breast than the right. 
It is prudent to maintain your next post operative appointment with your plastic surgeon, especially in view of your history of previous possible infection.

Thank you for your question and  photograph.  Prolonged erythema (redness) of the lower breast skin is not uncommon after a breast lift or breast reduction.  As you are not having pain, tenderness or fevers, it is very unlikely to be a problem and will eventually go away.  To be sure, of course, you should follow up with your surgeon.
