Best treatment for sebaceous hyperplasia? (Photo)

Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery.

In my practice, I have found KTP lasers do an excellent job of ablating these lesions and leaving normal skin. Usually, the lesions become a scab, peel off and your skin goes back to normal. Unfortunately, you are prone to these and maintenance with a topical tretinoin or tazarotene will help slow down recurrences. These topical retinoids for some patients can be drying and irritating. I usually recommend that patients are very careful about the dosage i.e. one pea size drop for entire face and start slowly i.e. every other night or every third night. Increase dosage as tolerated. There are alternatives for the ultra sensitive patients. Periodic laser treatments may be needed.

These are very common - at least half of my patients have them. We resurface them off using Sciton MLP/TRL at the same time as they do their other routing Broad Band Light, Halo Laser or other resurfacing each year. There is no permanent solution, but they are easy to keep maintained safely.
