My scars feel Iike hard ridges . I am 10 weeks post op. My surgeon says he does not know why this occurred. He injected my incisions with steroids to hopefully soften them.
Answer: Injection therapy combined with applying Plato's scar serum twice daily Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars. Answer: Hypertrophic scars It is unusual to get hypertrophic scars in the eyelids. Are these located more towards the temple region? I agree with steroid injections. These should soften and flatten the scars. Regular massage can also help.

Answer: Lumpy scars Eyelid incisions tend to heal beautifully, as the eyelid skin is very thin and not prone to excessive scar formation. That being said, I find most blepharoplasty scars to get a little lumpy-bumpy in the healing phase, and I inject these lumps often with a combination of Kenalog (an anti-inflammation and scar-softening steroid) and 5-flurouracil (an anti-scarring medication). Generally, the injection works over a ~ 2-3 week course. A scar lump may require a series of injection, but eyelid scars rarely require more than 2 treatments. Follow-up with your surgeon regularly, and good luck in your healing process!

Answer: Hard scars Steroid or Kenalog injections are definitely the treatment of choice. Sometimes several injections are needed. I prefer to inject the raised eyelid scars every 4 weeks for 3 months. They flatten nicely with this series. Some patients heal with thicker scars.
