I had a facelift just over a year ago. After 6 months I began noticing some horizontal ridges on one cheek, as if the skin had been unevenly pulled. This has gotten a bit worse more recently. Can this be corrected with surgery, or is there some kind of laser or light pulse treatment that could fix this?

Answer: Horizontal lines Dear dforantIn the early period following a facelift, there is significant skin and subcutaneous edema. Over time, as the swelling settles, fine lines and irregularities can become more noticeable. As a generality, facelift surgery does very little for the appearance and quality of the surface of your facial skin. It repositions and re-drapes fat pads and deep facial structures.Once you are examined, if the lines are a function of deeper asymmetric positioning of structures then a revision could be indicated. Very often, I find small asymmetries can be improved with less invasive techniques. A frank discussion with your surgeon would help you have a better understanding of relevant issues. If you are still not satisfied, a second opinion from an experienced surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery would be beneficial.

Answer: Deformity after a facelift It is difficult to give advise without seeing some photos. Some contour irregularities can be improved with judicious use of structural fat graftins, or possibley limited revision surgery. Only an in person evaluation can determine the proper approach to correct this deformity.
