Would microneedling work in treating keratoris pilaris scars?

Question

I've had keratosis pilaris on my upper arm since childhood. As keratosis pilaris went away with time, they left covered the arm with flat and very hyperpigmeted scars. Would microneedling work in treating keratosis pilaris scars?

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

Thank you for sharing your question.  With a combination of topical skin care, chemical peels, and possibly micro needling you should be able to achieve an improved appearance to your hyper pigmentation.  Hope this helps.

Microneedling would not be my 1st recommendation for treating the hyper pigmentation on the arms, which is probably a result of picking. I would start with the use of some type of skin lightener, and sunscreen. I would then recommend some chemical peels, the VI Peel seems to work well for me in my practice. Once the pigmentation is resolving microneedling can be used to help with the treatment of remaining scars.
