After wearing the retainer, my nose looks noticeably wider and bigger. Does the retainer increase the width of the nose or is it a temporary effect?

Nostril retainers are used to aid in preventing nostril distortion after a rhinoplasty or rhinoseptoplasty surgery. It's not usually required after every surgery. We recommend it that some patients use it 24/7 for a couple of months and nights only for up to 6-8 months to help shape their uneven nostrils. It will not make your nose look bigger after you remove the retainer.

Hi there! If I'm understanding correctly, your nostril retainer is being used to keep a small nostril open. When used, these prevent contracture and nasal obstruction over time. I have not noticed dramatic changes in the shape of the nose - only the nostril - with their usage. If there is scar tissue present causing the contraction and stability isn't obtained, then if the retainer is not used, the shape may return toward what it was before. Hope this helps.
