I have had a few consultations for a rhinoplasty so far, but one of the surgeons I spoke with told me that due to my anatomy, my nose can only be very slightly de-projected. I am looking to get more opinions on whether this is true, and if it is true, whether work on mainly the bridge & tip will improve the look of my nose enough to be a big improvement & to complement my features? I don't want a small nose anyways, but I do want it to be smaller overall than what it is.
Answer: Nasal Deprojection Hi there! Thanks for the great photos and questions. A nose can be deprojected quite a bit. But, we have to remember that the more deprojection, the wider it can appear on the frontal view. So, it really is all about balance. A 1-2 mm deprojection can change the shape quite a bit. In your case, you may want to consider how your chin balances with your nose. A weak chin can make the nose appear larger than it really is. A chin implant or genioplasty can help offset this. Just a thought. Hope this is useful to you. I would seek consultation with another surgeon - even virtual - to learn more!

Answer: It's all about balance Thank you for your question. While it is true that surgical outcomes are limited by anatomy, in your case it should be reasonable to achieve a deprojected nose with bridge smoothening and tip refinement. The goal of surgery is to make the nose harmonious with the rest of the face, drawing attention away from the nose and to the eyes. This is by far the most common issue faced by my rhinoplasty patients, so you're not alone! I hope this helps, and all the best to you. -Dr. P

Answer: Deprojection It would not be uncommon for someone to project your nose significantly to fit your face. The key is to ensure that the nose is balanced and does not look too small or too big.

Answer: Deprojecting A nose during rhinoplasty: Deprojecting A nose during rhinoplasty: deprojecting the bridge and supratip area of the nose can easily be done to any extent necessary to provide the appropriate aesthetic result. Deprojecting the tip is a bit more difficult but with some additional maneuvers that go beyond standard rhinoplasty the tip can be Deprojected enough to provide an aesthetically pleasing result. The additional procedures necessary to accomplish this after the usual tip work include some or all of the following: extending the transfixion incision and re-attaching the columella in a lower position, trimming the lateral wings of the lower lateral Cartilage, and in the most severe cases trimming the foot plates of the medial crura of the lower lateral Cartilage. Using these techniques there’s almost no limit to how much the tip can be de projected.

Answer: How much can my nose be de-projected? Based on your photos, you appear to have a wide, long, and overprojected nasal appearance. I suspect well-performed rhinoplasty can be considered for achieving a smaller, less distracting, and more feminine nasal appearance. If you don't have a good feeling after a consultation, keep looking, and always follow your gut. Computer imaging would help you. Best of luck. Dr Joseph
