Thin skin after having children?

Question

I have 3 children and my youngest is 5. I have very thin skin underneath my c-section scar and when I scratch that area my skin always tears. It'll then ooze with plasma and looks nasty. What are my options?

This could simply be chronic rash and irritation leading to skin breakdown in a moist fold, or could be something else. In-person evaluation by an ABPS-certified plastic surgeon can help determine the correct diagnosis, and options for treatment, including non-surgical ones.Of course, elective tummy tuck can also be considered, but would not be something covered by insurance in most cases. Thin skin underneath a C section scar does happen occasionally.  Depending on the skin and tissues of the rest of your abdomen, you may simply need a scar revision or a tummy tuck for maximum correction.  Meet with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine your best options.  Good Luck!

It is very unusual for skin to tear merely from scratching the skin. I would consult a plastic surgeon who together with your primary care physician can coordinate an evaluation of your wound healing issues and possible procedures to excise the area that does not seem to be healing. Good Luck!

Follow up with your primary care physician to investigate the cause of fragile skin beneath your c section scar. Surgical options would include revision of the c section scar alone or in conjunction with a tummy tuck. It is not uncommon to have skin trouble near previous scars, specially if there is skin hanging over the area such as after a c-section. You may be a candidate for a tummy tuck where you can have that area removed. I would recommend getting a consultation from a board certified plastic surgeon and find out if you are a candidate for any surgical treatment.

Thin skin under the c-section scar with itching can be due to several issues, and rashes are among them. You might start the investigation with your primary physician to see if there is an explanation for the thinning and irritation. Revision of the c-section scar and skin is an option, again depending on the cause of the sensitivity.
