Can Juvederm migrate to another area months after the procedure?

7 months ago I had Juverderm injected in my cheeks to remove the appearance of hollow eyes. On the same day i had volbella in my lips.Results were perfect. 2 days ago i woke up with extremely sore upper cheeks (face felt warm, sore and quite firm) and my face was puffy. My lips, only where the filler is left became very swollen and hard. Today my lips are 'back to normal' but the filler in my upper cheeks have migrated to under my eyes creating small oval swollen dark bags. Is this normal?

Juvederm, just like any other filler can migrate away from the site of injection. the good thing is it can be dissolved and the problem can be solved. you should seek advise from your doctor who did the injections so you can get it dissolved in a timely fashion

It isn’t normal for Juvederm to migrate 7 months after the procedure. I would recommend going to see the provider that injected you, as rarely can be the result of an low grade infection that may need treatment.

In general, fillers do not migrate. In addition, it is unusual for someone to develop an inflammatory reaction to a hyaluronic acid filler.That said, every case is different, and given your symptoms, I would highly recommendseeing your physician as soon as possible

the HA fillers are not going to start moving around the face after 7 months.  By that time a substantial portion of the filler is gone.  If you are having hard or swollen reactions in multiple areas, you may be having some sort of an allergic or infectious reaction.  You need to see your doctor for treatment.

What you are describing is very unusual, especially 7 months after your injections. Juvederm typically does not migrate to other areas. You should return to see your injector as soon as possible, so that he/she may evaluate you and make sure you don't have some type of infection. Best of luck.

The odds of anything being related to the Juvederm at this time frame is quite unusual. The only scenario I can think of where this can occur is if the treating physician or injector was using a non-approved product, even one that they presumed was Juvederm but in fact was not. This does happen in the U.S. and we are all trying our best to make sure these kinds of unapproved products do not make their way into the U.S. anytime soon.I would, as the others have also said, go back to your injector and get a good physical examination and make sure an infectious process or something else is not going on. Tests may need to be run and medicines given — but again, I cannot see this as a result of a filler.

Migration of juvederm is rare. After seven months, it would be highly unusual as most if not all the product should be gone. Consult with your injector as he or she know the specifics about you and the scope of the treatment.

Swelling as you describe ie very unusual so I would recommend returning to our injector ASAP.  A face that is swollen and warm could have an infection. Migration of the product at this stage would be unusual, and the product is starting to absorb by 7 months. So please call and go back to be evaluated.  Best,

Juviderm is a popular type of wrinkle filler classified as a hyaluronic acid. In my experience, some hyalurionic acid fillers, like Juviderm, attract more water than some other hyualronic acid fillers, that can result in "puffy" lower eyelids months after they have been injected.  Juviderm in other areas of the face do not do this. The hyaluronic acid fillers are manufactured by a technique called cross linking and this is believed why some can produce more puffiness. I recommend that you follow up with the doctor who injected you and see if they can correct this for you.
