This is a great question, as I believe that the cannula plays an important role in cell survival. I use the following: Extraction of fat- Use a 3mm cannula so that fat is extracted in small fragments. An added bonus is that it is easier to get smooth even liposuction results for the donor area (the part where fat is taken out). Re-injection of fat into buttocks- Use a cannula with 2mm internal diameter and a smooth lumen so that cells are not damaged during the re-injection into the buttocks.Below is a reference to info about cannula size for the fat extraction part. Too much has been written in the literature about the technique and not enough about the art of fat placement. I would recommend that you seek a plastic surgeon who performs hundreds of these procedures, has great reviews and photos, and is an expert in this field to assure that you get the results you are looking for.
I think that there are many ways to perform a Bbl and each doctor uses his own techniques to get the results he does. I always say it is the magician ( the surgeon) and not the wand( the instruments or machines) that creates the magic!
This is an interesting question. Many different types of surgical instruments can be used successfully to accomplish a BBL. The most important instrument is the surgeon and his experience with this procedure. In my practice for example, I have developed special instruments that make the trauma to the fat, while harvesting it, less traumatic. I have also developed and technique called Ultrasound-Image Guided Fat Augmentation Technique (UIGFAT) to more accurately place the fat and decrease the risk of injecting fat into a blood vessel. I have also developed instruments that allow me to mix the fat better into your body and I'm able to get about 50% more fat than I as able to before developing this instrument!
