Botox injections for forehead, crows feet & droppy smile on 6/20/17. Now I have blurry vision, a small lump (painful to the touch) above my left eye brow & trouble eating. The doctor I saw is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Saw my eye doc who gave me drops but they aren't helping. I really should get a refund as this was a total mess. Is there anything I can do to improve my vision? I spend a lot of time on a computer/my phone for work but can't barely get through the day.
Answer: Unusual Negative Side Effect of Botox This is an unfortunate unwanted side effect of injecting Botox, and although can happen to anybody, it should really be something quite rare with an experienced injector. It is most likely the neurotoxin was injected into a muscle that it was not supposed to be injected into causing your eye issues, double vision. Botox will wear off completely in 3 to 4 months on average, but in the meantime you should be following closely with an ophthalmologist. I'm not really sure an oculoplastic surgeon is going to help you much as they are more surgical in nature and your problem at this point with the double vision is more of a medical issue. I would put my money on an ophthalmologist or a neuroophthalmologist to be far more effective in this scenario at ensuring your vision is protected. I'm pretty sure that the bump above your eyes nothing to be terribly concerned about and although an inconvenience will likely subside with time. Best of luck, Dr Giordano

Answer: Botox has caused blurry/double vision, a small lump to appear above my eye brow and my cheek muscles to weaken, advice? Thank you for sharing your experience and I am sorry that your results have not been what you anticipated. If botox is injected into incorrect areas of the face it can have negative results with paralysis/atrophy of muscles and can cause a bit of an eyelid droop. The key to treatment is appropriate diagnosis - if the eyelid muscle was affected then prescription eye drops can improve your vision and appearance but ultimately you will need to allow the Botox to wear off naturally in 3-4 months. As for the eyebrow you may have suffered a small bruise or hematoma causing the tenderness which should improve given enough time. I would certainly discuss what has taken place with your injector so that appropriate records can be kept to avoid similar episodes in the future. Best wishes.

Answer: Double vision You have a valid concern. I recommend an in person evaluation with a board certified provider soon. Do you know the qualifications and education of the provider who injected you with the Botox?

Answer: Blurry vision/weakness after botox I am sorry that you had problems after botox. When this happens it is usually because of placement of the botox. The botox has relaxed muscles that control these functions. The lump is probably due to bruising in the area. There is not much you can do at this time. I would let the botox wear off and let your injector know that this happened.
