Old fillers Juvederm reacting months later to medication and swelling up, can an infection cause this?

I was hospitalized yesterday for a kidney infection and put on an antibiotic drip. That night, I took hydromorphone. I woke up to find all my fillers that I had done months ago (nose, lips, chin) to be HUGE, sore, and inflamed. They're massive and they're disfiguring my whole face. Can an infection do this to fillers? Or did the medicine create a reaction to it? Please help, I look and feel horrible.

It's unlikely that hyaluronic acid fillers would be reacting to new medications months after you were injected. However, anything is possible. The nice thing about HA fillers is that they can be easily reversed with hyaluronidase. Most likely it's a coincidence that you were having some sort of an infection close by the area where you had your injections done. It could be a sinus injection it a dental one. It's imperative that you go see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.Best regards, Dr. Onir

Thankyou for your question. To answer your question and infection can definitely trigger the filler going hard. You are on antibiotics whihc is great . Tehy may settle but if not you will need to go back to your injector and the lumps can be flattened by dissolving the filler. It may take a few session to remove the lumps completely.Hope this helps and good luck

You're under care of medical doctors and specialists. There are many things which could have caused your reaction. It's possible you have some kind of an allergic expression to the antibiotics you're receiving. it is also possible that the infection has spread to the area where the fillers are, but in face of an infection those fillers will dissolve rather quickly. ask those questions of the treating Physicians and I'm sure you will be just fine.
