Following removal of breast implants, fluid in the pocket can produce certain noises as well as tissues shifting with motion. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA
Many patients hear or "feel" gurgling or popping sounds after explantation or breast augmentation. This is usually due to fluid or air on the pocket and will go away with time!
Usually gurgling is related to fluid in the pocket that is left after the implants are removed. If this is the cause and it is early post-op, then it usually goes away as the tissues seal down. If concerned, see your surgeon.
Yes, it is quite common for patients to report that they hear “gurgling sounds” after breast implant removal and sometimes even after initial breast augmentation surgery. This occurs because there is some air and/or fluid in the breast implant pockets. These sounds usually dissipate within the first few days/week after surgery. On the other hand, one of the complications that can occur after breast implant removal is fluid accumulation; best to follow-up with your plastic surgeon who is in the best position to rule out this fluid accumulation (which can also be noisy). Best wishes.
It is not unusual to hear these types of sounds after implant removal. This will dissipate within the first few days after surgery. Follow up with your Plastic Surgeon to assure you are healing properly.
