Otoplasty and no bandages?

Hello, dressing are a surgeons preference. I used ointment on the incisions only and a headband 24hours a day for 3 days then at night for 2 weeks. Good Luck.

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear that you are worried after your surgery.  The dressings after surgery that doctors use are dependent on the type of procedure performed and are designed to minimize any additional risks of trauma to the ear.  Though I normally use bandages and head wraps to avoid the ears being pulled or tugged on, your procedure may not have required it.  Please voice your concerns with your surgeon, they ultimately want you to have an excellent outcome and can provide you with reassurance that all is well. 

Early healing for #earlobeReduction occurs in the first week. I use dissolving sutures. I don’t use any bandages.There are always
asymmetries before and after surgery although I always try to make the two
sides as even as is possible. Scars are
generally well hidden and may have a small amount of redness that can persist for several weeks or months.
These can be treated with scar creams and laser treatments. Re-piercing can be done 3 to 6 weeks after
surgery. Swelling is usually significant in the first several weeks and some
can persist for a few months but this is not as common.

Many thanks for submitting your question.The need for bandages post Otoplasty is variable and will depend on the surgeons preference and the extent of surgery performed.I usually recommend that my patients shower and wash their hair as normal and wear a head bandage at night for 2- 4 weeks post surgery. You can purchase just a normal head band and wear this at night will avoid your ears being pulled in your sleep.I hope this helps.

If you were operated on with the stitch method, you don’t require a bandage. If you we were operated on with a traditional method, your surgeon must decide how long you must wear a bandage.

Every doctor is different. Some like bandages, and others do not. I usually have patients wear a head wrap for a few days, and then many times have them buy a headband to wear at night so that the ears are not pulled on.

if you had a full otoplasty and not just an ear lobe repair (which is the section where this question was found), i let all my patients wash their hair the day after surgery. i don't use a dressing after the first day.However, i like them to wear a headband at night, to prevent your ear getting caught on your pillow when you sleep. for an earlobe repair there is never any type of dressing, except for some antibiotic cream on the dissolving sutures.don't worry, if you went to a board certified PS, you are in good hands.
