Can a nipple ring be left in during liposuction?

I have one nipple pierced and is fairly new. If it is taken out, it will close up. Is there any way I can leave it in? My breasts are not being worked on in surgery, just liposuction. I had a rhinoplasty last Sept and my doc let me just tape over the ear piercings I couldn't remove at the time. My nipple barbell is solid gold.

The reason we like to have body piercings removed is on the chance that they may conduct electricity and cause a burn when we are using electrocautery. There is no electrocautery during liposuction, so you are fine to leave the nipple ring in.

There is no reason you should have to remove the nipple ring, as long as electrosurgery is not performed.  Especially, if the nipple ring is not in the treatment area.  I wish you the best of luck, Dr. Emer.

During liposuction surgery electric cautery is not used. In circumstances when electric cautery is used nipple rings can not be worn. I recommend that patients with nipple rings, change the ring with a plastic ring, temporarily.

Electrocautery is not used during liposuction so the potential of skin burns through metal does not exist.
