Are nipple injections safe, and how long do they last? I'm happy with my areolas, but I find that my nipples do not protrude very far I plan to get breast augmentation and I'm wondering about the nipple injections. basically how do I make my nipples look more erect/eye-catching?

Nipple injections involve injecting a filler material into the nipple to increase its size, projection, or symmetry. While it is possible to enhance the appearance of the nipples with this procedure, it is important to note that nipple injections are not currently approved by the FDA for cosmetic purposes.
The procedure takes 5 minutes to do and is done via an injection of a hyaluronic acid dermal filler to keep the nipples and areola looking erect and plump. The duration depends on the type of filler and the amount used as well as the metabolism of the person receiving it but it average should be around 1 year. 
It's important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your individual goals and concerns and determine the best course of action for achieving the desired results.

Only on the basis of in person consultation one could give you a meaningfull answer about nipple augmentation. It would be difficult, but not impossible, to enlarge nipples with injection of soft tissue filler or fat,; nobody can predict how long it will last? Correction by means of inverted nipple repair, possibly using local tissue for augmentation, should also be considered. Hope this helps.

You may find your nipples actually protrude more after the enlargement.  If they are not large enough, fat can be injected, but you may lose sensation and may not be able to breast feed.
