Hello, I am extremely tired of paying so much for filler every year and am now interested in stem cell fat grafting for my cheeks and temples and low/mid face. I am 32. What is the process and will I have to wait for my filler to dissolve? How much do you charge for treating the areas mentioned? Thank you!

Answer: Facial stem cell fat grafting? Thanks for writing,Marketing with high speed scientific terms draw a lot of people in to spend a lot of money. We, scientifically, are not there yet. When scientists can make stem cells become what they want, then we can specifically turn those cells on to becomes a heart, a liver, a kidney, fat or even cartilage anything they want. Unfortunately we are not there yet. Some day we will be and Star Trek science will be here.Fat as a graft has some unpredictability and survival variability, based on many things. There is no question it works, but to what degree? I use it and like it, but I never promise perfect result. What you are wanting is obtainable with fillers. Long term fillers like Radiesse, which I use and like a lot offers more stability, but using it requires a different technique of injection. There are also other long term fillers which may help you. I hope this helpsStephen M. Answer: Facial fat transfer there are a few things I would like to share. They are my opinion than not based on scientific evidence. Others will have opinions that are different than mine. Fillers are by far preferable compared to fat ,stem cells or not, in regards to precision predictability of outcome. There are a multitude of reasons why I say this but I can start off by simply stating that fillers can be injected through minuscule needle while fat needs to be injected through a rather thick cannula.( at least in comparison to needles ) The percentage of fat that survives long-term varies greatly with studies that show everything between 10% to 90%. This bayou it's very nature makes fat transfer inaccurate. The selection of stem cells serves no advantage other than marketing and making you spend more money because of emotional association with fancy science terminology. It's kind of like adding the word laser to any procedure. Somehow that makes it much more appealing. If you want your fat transfer provider to give you an accurate treatment that it would be to your advantage to show up with a face that's relatively stable in regards to not have fillers present. If you still have filler than your provider needs to figure out how much volume you need in each area? This simply adds one additional layer of inaccuracy. Personally I would stick with fillers regardless of the financial frustration. Try long-lasting fillers like Radiesse. You can even go to super long lasting fillers like Bellafill. If facial fat transfer was the cats meow then nobody would be doing fillers anymore. I suggest, before you pursue this treatment option, you read some of the posts of frustrated patients asking to have previously placed facial fat graft can be removed. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
