How is the length of the FUT 'strip' determined?

Question

I tend to see strip scars that go ear to ear, is this just the standard for all FUT procedures? For example, if someone needs 2,500 grafts, is there anyway the strip could be done without going all the way to the ears? Even though hair covers the scar, I would feel much better knowing that we can shorten the length without that half moon shape that loops by the ears. I'm aware of FUE, however do to financial limits, I will have to do FUT.

FUT methods will always leave a noticeable scar in the back of your head which it will cause a psychology discomfort with the way you look. nowadays there is more advanced practice for hair transplant such as FUE and DHI. Both of the, are a non chirurgical operation, that leave no scars in the donor area. The successful rate is 90%, results between 6 months and 12 months and patients satisfaction is over 95%.The difference between FUE and DHI is the implantation phase. The extraction is the same by using micromotor to extract the graft individually from the donor area. For FUE the implantation is based on creating small incision in the receptive area to implant the grafts and for DHI it will be by using Choi pen with no creation of incision, directly the graft will be implanted without leaving any marks. Length of the FUT 'strip' determined  with demand  of  surgeon  to  restore  the  bald area  and 
 skin  laxity  of  the  patient . Generally  I was  harvesting  a strip  of  skin from  one  side  of temporal  fringe  to  other  ste  so  lenght  was  around  25-28  cm ..  I never use that follicular unit strip surgery technique anymore  because  the  patient would have a long, 2-4 mm width pretty visible scar on back of his/her head in FUT technique , because of  sutures to  close  the  gap.
 You  may  find  a cheaper  but  experienced  center  in İstanbul  for  FUE  operation  .

The length of the donor strip incision is determined by the number of follicular unit grafts required for the hair restoration. There are slightly less than 100 follicular units/cm2, so if a 1cm wide strip is used, a hair restoration procedure requiring 1800 grafts would need a strip that measured slightly more than 18cm in length.

A 2500 graft procedure will need a strip of 20cm length with 1.25 cm width

The width of the strip is determined by scalp looseness or laxity

Strip length is determined by how large the number of grafts needed are. Strip length is also determined based on quality of donor region. Strip width may vary based on number of grafts as well.
