I am 27 years old and I lost a lot of weight. My arms and legs are fine but I have A LOT of loose stomach skin that I really want to get rid of. It looks like fat rolls when I wear tight clothes. The problem is...I still want kids in the future. Would that ruin the tummy tuck? I am not planning to have kids until I am 32-33 years old. I don't want to live with this stomach for the next 5-6 years :( but I would hate to do the same surgery again after pregnancy. Any advice? Thank you!
Answer: Pregnancy After Tummy Tuck: Will It Affect Your Results? Hello Alexandra900. Thank you for your question regarding the impact of pregnancy on tummy tuck results. First and foremost, congratulations on your weight loss! You've made a significant achievement, and it’s understandable that you want to address the loose skin now. Pregnancy after a tummy tuck does present concerns, but it should not ruin your tummy tuck results. Here’s why: Skin Elasticity and Muscle Repair: A tummy tuck will tighten your abdominal muscles and remove excess skin. While pregnancy can stretch the skin and muscles again, many women find that their stomach "snaps back" better post-pregnancy with the help of the previous tummy tuck. Rare Need for Revision: It is rare for patients to need revisions after having children post-tummy tuck. The results may not be as tight as they were immediately after surgery, but they should still be significantly improved compared to not having the tummy tuck at all. Quality of Life: You shouldn’t have to wait years to feel good about your body. The confidence and comfort you gain from a tummy tuck now can significantly improve your quality of life. If you do need minor revisions after future pregnancies, those can be addressed at that time. Planning for Future: If you decide to have a tummy tuck now, your abdomen will likely handle future pregnancies better than it would without the surgery. Your muscles and skin will already be tighter, providing better support during and after pregnancy. In summary, while there is always a chance that pregnancy can affect the results of a tummy tuck, it should not ruin them. I understand your concerns, but you shouldn’t let the possibility of future pregnancies stop you from enjoying the benefits of a tummy tuck now. You deserve to feel confident and comfortable in your body. Good luck with your decision, and I hope this helps to ease your concerns. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FASMBS, FICS

Answer: Tummy tuck Hello! This is a great question. Congratulations on your weight loss! Everyone's anatomy is different and how they retract after pregnancy or even weight loss is also different and can vary greatly. I have many patients who have underwent tummy tuck/skin removal procedures who also still want to have children in the future. It is up to you, as long as you are aware that according to your own anatomy and the way your body retracts after pregnancy you may require another procedure. There is no way to tell right now, but it is possible that it can go either way. As always, an in-office consultation is required to really examine your abdomen and your own unique anatomy, as well as discuss the procedure and any questions you may have. Best,Dr. Tanovic

Answer: Tummy Tuck Hello and thank you for your question. Many women have a tummy tuck pre children. You may or may not need a small revision when you are finished having children. To obtain the best possible result, it is best to wait until you are done having children. Schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options. Best wishes!

Answer: Surgery I have seen some ladies who did very well with their tuck after pregnancy and some who ruined the tuck. When you are pregnant, be careful and not gain over 25 to 30 pounds for anything more is just more fat. If the muscle part is undone, then it can be tightened after you have had all the children you want.
