Can this be reduced with Botox? Lower face near mouth

Question

Not sure if this is my buccinator muscle but it is more muscular side of my mouth.I normally see this in masculine faces.Ive had Botox into the DOA and chin, which has helped the corners turn up and relaxed the tension around my mouth.I don’t need to get it as often. Would Botox into that area that I pointed the arrows to help create symmetry ? It’s not hollowness

Hi funhoney. This is definitely not the buccinator and is most likely the risorius, although it would be easier to tell if we saw dynamic motion. Nonetheless, I would STRONGLY recommend against getting any botox to decrease this area as muscles in this area are highly interdigitated, meaning that the botox can inadvertently affect another muscle, and the muscles in this area are what affect your smiling. You are almost certain to develop some kind of smile asymmetry if you go after this with botox. I would leave it alone.

It's difficult to tell from the photo if the area that concerns you is muscle related or a fat deposit.  If it is muscle related, Botox is not recommended as it could inadvertently impact your smile.  If it is a fatty deposit it may be improved with liposuction, but truly it may be better to leave it alone.

Targeting the buccinator muscle for this isn't advisable. It plays an important role in keeping the oral mucosa against the teeth for chewing. If relaxed, it might result in a saggy cheek. Plus, the nearby risorius muscle, which helps pull the corner of the mouth outwards during a smile, might be impacted too.

You have a beautiful face. The small amount of fat that’s present on the sides of the mouth is more obvious in summon individuals, and not so much in others. Sometimes it’s also more obvious on one side of the face and not on the other. I personally don’t think this makes you unattractive in anyway. However, if this bothers you a great deal, you can have a micro cannula liposuction performed to match the other side. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City Plastic Surgery.
