Ultrashape had temporary effect?

Question

Hi!I I did 3 Ultrashape treatments on my love handles (I'm otherwise in decent shape). The last two of the treatments had Velashape afterwards that the spa just threw in. After my second treatment, I had a brief few weeks of the love handles looking gone, but now (6 months later) I am back to normal. Help!

UltraShape effects permanent destruction of adipocytes, i.e. it does 'not' cause only a temporary change to fat cells. 
I am a doctor for Syneron - Candela, and I have extensively scrutinized the science and clinical track-record behind this modality along with that for other methods of non-invasive fat destruction.  Accordingly, I am confident that UltraShape definitely works but, as for all tech, the correct parameters need to be chosen for the treatment, and I usually advise three treatments. In my practice, I encourage patients to drink lots of water for 24 hours post-treatment and to engage in aerobic exercise for 20 minutes within the same time frame. The use of Velashape (RF with vacuum) immediately afterwards is great, and I encourage this beforehand too. 
It sounds as if you have 'not' maintained a controlled lifestyle (diet and exercise) after the treatments, which has resulted in the remaining fat cells to have enlarged.  Essentially, after the treatment, some fat shall have been left behind, and excess intake of calories (and/ or reduced usage of energy) shall have caused those cells to become engorged with fat ('hypertrophy').

While fat cells in the treated area are permanently removed with UltraShape, that doesn't mean the treatment acts as an immunization against possible future weight gain. To maintain your results by keeping your weight level steady, it's important to take an active part by eating right and exercising. If you still see problem spots when you're doing everything right, a follow-up session may be recommended.

After much research, I decided to offer CoolSculpting instead of UltraShape, because I believe it is a superior option for fat removal. Now regardless of which fat removal treatment a person has the results are dependent on the lifestyle of the patient. Not all fat cells are removed, therefore the existing cells can inflate with poor diet and exercise habits.  If this sounds like you, I would recommend adjusting your habits to see if your love handles "deflate."

Thanks for your question. My office has had lots of success with the Ultrashape Power and patient's results have been durable and long lasting.  Exceptions have been seen in patients whose dietary or exercise habits have changed for the worse following treatment.  This is seen with all body contouring devices; the results are very dependent upon patient lifestyle.  In these patients, when they re-adjusted their diet and exercise back to their optimized levels, their positive gains magically "re-appeared".  Hope this helped, and best of luck to you!
