So I've had a weak spot on the left and right parts of my hairline since I was a little kid. It has never gotten worse and the rest of my hair is very thick and healthy. I think it's possible that when I was little my hair was tied really tight every day which damaged this area. Is there any way to fix it?

There are some people that anecdotally report that changing brands affects their hair and they strongly prefer one over another. For most people however, it should not make a big difference. The most important factor is to get the drug on the scalp. For males, that's twice daily.
