I have read this doesn’t work and causes more harm than hair growth. I have gotten the injections into my scalp and they have worked repeatedly. Should I bother trying these long term shots or go back to what I know and am comfortable with?
Answer: Hair loss treatment--prp, progesterone I recommend following up with your Doctor about your concerns over your intended treatment. There are also great non-invasive options like prp/progesterone and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: IM kenalog for alopecia areata You are incorrect that this technique does not work. That’s simply false. Intramuscular kenalog may not be the right option for everyone but it is an option for many. Be sure to carefully review your concerns with your dermatologist. There are potential side effects with any treatment but that does not necessarily mean they will occur. One needs to be fully educated in the carious treatments to know best how to proceed.

Answer: PRP has been shown effective in AA I typically do a trial of steroid injections as they are covered by insurance but if they fail I do High Density PRP and I have yet to have a patient not do well. Happy to help you anytime! Please note this citation:A randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐and active‐controlled, half‐head study to evaluate the effects of platelet‐rich plasma on alopecia areata

Answer: Injections preferred Injections are always used first unless the area is extensive and aggressive with rapid hair loss. I have no problem giving IM Kenalog in severe AA but if the area is limited there is no reason to and I wouldn't do it.

Answer: Alopecia areata Some doctors prefer systemic steroids to injection of the steroid directly into the impacted area. If you would rather he do it the other way, speak with him/her
